This week in class we had two guest speakers come into the class. The first speakers, the Environmental Commission in South Orange, talked a lot about waste management. I think that the information that they shared was really interesting. They talked about how they try to work with town and the neighboring areas. It will be interesting to see what that group does. The second speaker was from the Environmental Center and she talked about how they worked to educate different people of any age about what was happening in the environment.
Also this week Wanda gave us a stack of informative books to read about our topic of biodynamics, we split them up so that each of us could skim through and learn from them before we go meet with Pfeiffer Center, on February 16th (we changed the date). The first book that I looked through was called "A Biodynamic Manual" by Pierre Masson this book gave a good insight on how to read the information in the calendar that we were given. The book also talked in detail about biodynamic compost. This specific style of composting helps to act on the compost piles themselves and also on the soil where it is spread. The book has details about how to prepare everything as well as how to execute the process correctly. Essentially I think biodynamic composting is something that we can look into for our project, in a small scale of course.
Until we are able to meet with the Pfeiffer Center we haven't decided on what out goal is going to be, however in the next week or so I hope that we are able to come up with some ideas and be able to hold an intelligent conversation at the Pfeiffer Center about biodynamics. I think it would be a good idea to go visit with some ideas in mind.
