Last week we met for the first time as our Capstone class. During this meeting we discussed the various projects that will be worked on and in progress during this Spring semester. However, before our professor discussed these topics, a member of a local environmental organization told us his story and what he does for the community. It was awesome to hear all the wonderful projects he does to help improve the community of Newark.
After he finished, our professors gave us a brief overview of all the other projects that will be worked on during the next few months. There seemed to be a variety of causes being addressed, from water contamination to helping control wasted food, to our project - bio-dynamic farming.
After the preview of projects, our group met up to create this website on WIX in order to begin documenting our journey right away. We then moved on to look at a bio-dynamic calendar which contains a plethora of information and is quite overwhelming, especially at first glance. Contained in this calendar are many different colors, symbols, columns, and numbers among other things that describe a variety of information to assist with the process of planting bio-dynamically. Since this type of planting is based highly on the cycles of the moon, many such patterns are relayed as well. I am sure we will still not be able to decipher it all by the end the of the semester haha. Anyway, we discussed possible aspects of bio-dynamic farming we could focus on since there is so much, and as of now we are not exactly sure what path we want to take. But, there is no doubt whatever we choose will be both exciting, highly educational, and rewarding.
