In Thomas Belton's "Protecting New Jersey's Environment", Belton focuses a lot about water, in estuaries, the Barnegat Bay, and climate change which is having a huge effect on water levels. First, he explained how important estuaries are for the environment, providing places for fish and other watery creature to have their babies and protection from predators. These estuaries are located where the tide meets the stream. This combination of salt and fresh water is key for this type of environment.
In addition, Belton discussed Barnegat Bay and how it is actually three little microtidal bays in one. How cool! These little bays have a huge amount of important plants and animals living in them. Particularly, the plants in the water help hugely in oxygenating the water and removing carbon dioxide.
Finally, Belton discussed the scary topic of climate change and how it is causing sea levels to rise. This is a huge problems because this rise in water will cause a great deal of flooding, and for some islands completely cover them. That's scary. We need to fix the problem before we are all living in Sea World.
